What works for you

Listening to a podcast recently about weight loss and overall health, I heard the statement repeated "Do what works for you" and I got to wondering about the validity of that statement. It seems in some cases, the "do what works for you" is really just an excuse to keep on keeping on, doing the same thing we have always done, giving a loophole to make excuses for why we haven't made changes. Perhaps that is a little harsh but I seem to hear the "I do what works for me" from people who want a different result but refuse to change..i.e cardio addicts who wont look at a set of weights and want to build a lean, shapely physique. Or, people who want to drop fat but cant live without their bread. I do believe there is some " what works for you" that is truly valid but as I read more and experiment more, seems there are some very basic prinicples that need to be followed to reach the goals we all have when it comes to fitness and weight loss and feeling overall good about our health. In reality it applies to everything in life, money, relationships, business, etc. Perhaps a better approach is to find the experts. Find someone who has what you want, who lives day in and day out as you dream of living and follow their example. If I am going to learn, I want to learn from the best. This is called Role Modeling....if you want to be rich, do what a rich person does, if you want to be lean and fit, find someone who lives it every day.
Below is a recent concoction of turkey muffins...they can be a little spicy...make the nose run a little so if you cant handle the heat omit the chipolte pepper and maybe cut back on the sauce. enjoy!

Chipolte Turkey Muffins: Makes 12 muffins

Tony Robbins

Just started getting into Anthony Robbins and his Personal Power Program! Unbelievable. As part of the program he stresses setting goals and taking action. Action is power....power to change your life. One of my goals is to figure out how to blog...as I start to formulate long terms goals for business and career, I thought creating a blog might direct me to where I can contribute the most. One area of life I am evaluating is making a cookbook that aligns itselft with the Paleo style of eating and structured for those competing in Figure shows, etc. The challenge is making food taste great while keeping to a specific eating plan designed to drop body fat and maintain lean mass. So far it has been an incredible journey and the more I learn, the more I see I need to learn.
One of my favorite rubs for Fish as of late is called an African spice rub. I amended it from Bobby Flay, and it is really yummy...one way to add some zing to all that white fish we eat while on competition diets. See below for recipe.

African Spice Fish Rub:
1 TBSP Cumin
1 TBSP Kosher Salt
1 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp Allspice
1 tsp Black Pepper
1 tsp tumeric
1 pinch Cayenne

I mix these and rub and grill on fish such as Cod, Tilapia, Mahi, Orange Roughy...
